Description
MAestro turns an Android phone into a working remote for a grandMA console. It talks OSC to grandMA3 and telnet to grandMA2, reads your groups, position presets and patch straight off the desk, and lets you position fixtures, repatch addresses and fire executors without walking back to the console.
Built for adjusting position presets on stage
You are standing under the fixture, the desk is across the room, and every adjustment is another walk. MAestro puts the parts of the console you actually need at that moment in your hand.
Two consoles, one app
- grandMA3 over OSC
- grandMA2 over telnet on port 30000
- Pick the desk and the app reconfigures itself for that protocol
Positions
- Select any group read from the console
- Enter pan and tilt directly in degrees or from another position.
- Drive pan and tilt from a Bluetooth gamepad, using the sticks.
- Position presets show their names, not just numbers
- Store and recall, with a configurable recall fade (default 2 seconds)
Patch
- Reads the full patch from the console: ID, name, address, fixture type
- On grandMA2, channels are listed before fixtures with a CH/FIX column
- Repatch a fixture by typing the DMX address, and the app sends the correct syntax for the connected desk
- Parks the rig while it reads and unparks when finished, so probing never throws light on stage
- Built-in DMX tester for checking a single address
Live
- Executors and sequences on the phone, read from the console
- grandMA2 executors are read per page with a page picker
- grandMA3 sequences with cue feedback
- Free-text command line, with an add-source option that appends your current selection: Load becomes Load Sequence 5 on grandMA3 and Load Executor 1.101 on grandMA2
Requirements
- Android 7.0 or later
- Phone and console on the same network
- grandMA3 v2.4.2.2: OSC enabled under Menu, In & Out, OSC, with Enable Input, Enable Output and Receive Command switched on
- grandMA2 v3.9.63.1: Telnet enabled in Setup, Global Settings, with a console user and password
Installing
MAestro is an Android app, installed directly rather than through the Play Store.
- Download the zip and unzip it. Inside is a single file, MAestro.apk
- Get the APK onto your phone — copy it over USB, or download the zip on the phone itself and unzip it there.
- Tap the APK. Android will ask permission to install apps from this source. Allow it for whichever app you tapped from, usually your browser or file manager.
- If Play Protect warns that it does not recognise the app, choose Install anyway. That warning appears for every app not distributed through the Play Store.
- Open MAestro.
